1.   I want a Glazed Frame

What is this appropriate for?  Posters, Prints, Certificates, Photographs without value*, Children’s Pictures, Notices etc…

All works on paper and many textiles need to be glazed to keep them clean. A mount will still benefit many images, and offers a greater degree of protection by keeping the artwork away from the glaze.

*Photographs will often stick to glass in time when placed directly against it.

What do I get with this?   Frame; Glazing as appropriate; a pH neutral Barrier Card;  removable Hardboard Back; Brown Tape (to finish back); D Rings, Screws and Picture Cord (to hang your picture); Full fitting instructions

What measurement should I put in and where?  The Height and Width that you enter will be the size of the Glaze for your frame – normally this will be the exact size of your artwork so measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width box

What about the 'Mount' section

Check the 'None' button under the Mount heading to indicate that you require no mount

What about the 'Glazing' section

You can choose from various types of glazing with 2mm glass being chosen as the default option.

Our acrylic is a 2mm 'clear cast' material with a slightly higher optical quality than glass.

If you are choosing a glazed frame with no mount then the options of 'none' or 'mirror' are not appropriate at this point

How do I pick a 'Frame'

Go ahead and choose from the mouldings column your favoured moulding. Bear in mind that you can use the drop down at the top of the column to narrow your search to moulding colours

Nb. Approx. 6mm on every side will be covered by the rebate of the frame (the bit that overlaps the front of the glass to hold it in place).

Do feel free to 'Zoom' on the details of the profile picture to display a larger version for your examination

2.   I want a Glazed Frame with a Mount (Mat)

What is this appropriate for?  Watercolours, Gouache paintings, Prints, Photographs, Pastel/chalk/charcoal works*, some textiles and any other works on paper…

*Nb. Any artwork with migrant pigment (Pastels, chalk, charcoal etc) must always have a mount (Double is better still) to ensure that the pigment doesn’t come off onto the glass. Also, Acrylic or Styrene Glazing should not be used as the static which they sometimes generate can attract the pigment.

What do I get with this?  Frame; Glazing as appropriate; Mount; Archival Mounting Corners (for fitting your artwork); a pH neutral Barrier Card; a removable Hardboard Back; Brown Tape (to finish back); D Rings, Screws and Picture Cord (to hang your picture); Full fitting instructions

What measurement should I put in and where?  The Height and Width that you enter will be the size of the Aperture (Window) of your Mount (Mat)– this must always be smaller than the size of your paper/artwork so that it doesn’t fall through the hole. Measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width box

What about the 'Mount' section

Check the 'single', 'double' or 'triple' button under the Mount heading to indicate the type of mount you require.

Mount Colour

You choose the colours of your mount by using the horizontal scroller - Please click on the small box  underneath the word COLOUR prior to choosing a mount colour.

If you have chosen a 'double' or 'triple' mount then you will have to choose 2 or 3 colours - you will see they are marked as Inner, Outer and Middle, if appropriate. Again please click on the small box next to each term to make it active before choosing the colour.

It is now time to decide on your  margins

Margins are the width of the card signifying the distance from the aperture to the frame.

Nb. We recommend that you “weight” your mount (have more at the base than the top & sides). If you have chosen a 'single' or 'double' mount then you will have a small measurement for the amount that the secondary mount shows below your top mount.

3.   I want an Unglazed Frame (for an Oil Painting)

What is this appropriate for?  Oils and acrylics on board or canvas, ceramic tiles, panels, textiles on stretcher frames, mirrors (where you already have the glass), decorative applications…

What do I get with this?  Frame; removable Hardboard Back; Z clips (for fitting canvasses); Brown Tape (to finish back); D Rings, Screws and Picture Cord (to hang your picture); Full fitting instructions

What measurement should I put in and where?   The Height and Width that you enter will normally be the exact size of your artwork so measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width box at item 2. in the left hand panel on the  FRAMING tab  Click Here

After you’ve entered your measurements, go to the GLAZING tab  Click Here and select “No Glass”

Nb. The frame will be made to accommodate the artwork comfortably – we make the frame with approx. 2mm tolerance (bigger). Many canvasses and some panels are not square so ensure that the measurement you enter is the widest point including for example, any folded material on the corner of stretched canvas. If in any doubt, refer to our Measuring guide or give us a call.

4.   I want a Mount (Mat) without a Frame

What is this appropriate for?  When you already have a frame, or want to buy a Ready Made Frame, and your picture doesn’t fit in the frame. You could look for a Standard Size Mount but Custom Made gives you complete freedom with Aperture Size and Colour…

What do I get with this?  Mount; Archival Mounting Corners (for fitting your artwork); a pH neutral Barrier Card; Full fitting instructions

What measurement should I put in and where?   The Height and Width that you enter will be the size of the Aperture (Window) of your Mount (Mat)– this must always be smaller than the size of your paper/artwork so that it doesn’t fall through the hole. Measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width box at item 3. in the left hand panel on the MOUNTS tab  Click Here

Nb. We recommend that you “weight” your mount (have more at the base than the top & sides) so it is critical that you put Height and Width in the right boxes.

5.   I want a Framed Mirror

What is this appropriate for?  When you can’t find an Off The Shelf Mirror that suits your interior and you need complete freedom with size, colour and style…

What do I get with this?   Your Mirror will come ready to hang – make sure you put your Height & Width in the right boxes so we hang it the right way!

What measurement should I put in and where?  The Height and Width that you enter will be the size of the Mirror glass for your frame – to calculate the approximate finished size of the Framed Mirror, add twice the moulding  width to each dimension.

Choose your frame on the FRAMING tab  Click Here then Choose “High Quality Mirror” on the GLAZING tab  Click Here – you can enter the size on either tab.

6.   I want Glazing for a frame I’ve got

What is this appropriate for?  When you’ve got Broken glass in your frame or picture, or when you’ve got a frame and need it glazed…

What do I get with this?  Glazing as appropriate (you can only choose Acrylic or styrene); Hardboard Back

What measurement should I put in and where?  Measure the rebate (recess in the back of the frame) of your frame to the nearest millimetre, subtract 2mm from each dimension so that the glaze will be a comfortable fit and enter these dimensions on the GLAZING tab  Click Here

 7.  I want a Ready Made Frame

What is this appropriate for?  Many prints, certificates and photographs etc come in standard sizes and so do canvasses, sketch pads etc. So, often you will be able to find a Ready Made Frame and/or Mount that does the job and because they are manufactured in bulk, they are cheaper.
