About Giclée printing

We offer Giclée printing on to archival quality, coated artist's paper using pigment based inks that are ultraviolet stable to ensure longevity. Giclée is a French word which first appeared in the 1990s and is thought to derive from the French noun ‘gicleur', which means ‘nozzle'. It is a term used to describe a fine art ink-jet print generated from a high quality, large format printer.

The minimum weight of the paper we use is 250g/m2 with a pH value between 7 and 10. The finished prints are exceptionally resistant to any fading caused by exposure to sunlight or other bright light. We can also print on to canvas.

Prints on paper will usually be mounted and framed whereas canvasses are stretched onto top quality artists stretcher frames. The colour on a canvas print can be wrapped around te side of the stretcher frame which we call a gallery wrap, or alternatively, the colour can be confined to the surface leaving white sides which we call a museum wrap.

Recently, we have introduced a new technique - acrylic bonding, where the paper print is bonded to the reverse of a piece of polished acrylic - the ultimate in minimalism.
