Simple Frame with Glass

What is this appropriate for?  Posters, Prints, Certificates, Photographs without value*, Children’s Pictures, Notices etc…

All works on paper and many textiles need to be glazed to keep them clean. A mount will still benefit many images, and offers a greater degree of protection by keeping the artwork away from the glaze.

*Photographs will often stick to glass when placed directly against it, particularly over time, and so a mount is recommended...

What do I get with this?   Frame; Glazing as appropriate; a pH neutral Barrier Card;  removable Hardboard Back; Brown Tape (to finish back); D Rings, Screws and Picture Cord (to hang your picture); Full fitting instructions...

What measurement should I put in?  The Height and Width that you enter in the boxes marked “Artwork size” will be the size of the glazing material for your frame – normally this will be the exact size of your artwork so measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width boxes.

NB. Approx. 6mm on every side will be covered by the rebate of the frame (the bit that overlaps the front of the glass to hold it in place).

A Frame with Glass and a Mount (Mat)

What is this appropriate for?  Watercolours, Gouache paintings, Prints, Photographs, Pastel/chalk/charcoal works*, some textiles and any other works on paper…

*Nb. Any artwork with migrant pigment (Pastels, chalk, charcoal etc) must always have a mount (a double mount is better still) to ensure that the pigment doesn’t come off onto the glass. Also, Acrylic Glazing should not be used as the static electricity which it sometimes generates, can attract the pigment.

What measurement should I put in and where?  The Height and Width that you enter will be the size of the Aperture (Window) of your Mount (Mat) – this must always be smaller than the size of your paper/artwork otherwise the artwork will just fall through the hole. Measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width boxes...

NB. We recommend that you “weight” your mount (ie. have a wider mount at the base than the top & sides) so it is critical that you put Height and Width in the right boxes.

Frame for an Oil Painting

What is this appropriate for?  Oils and acrylics on board or canvas, ceramic tiles, panels, textiles on stretcher frames, mirrors (where you already have the glass), decorative applications…

What measurement should I put in and where?   The Height and Width that you enter will normally be the exact size of your artwork so measure it carefully to the nearest millimetre and enter the results in the Height and Width boxes...

NB. The frame will be made to accommodate the artwork comfortably – we make the frame with approx. 2mm tolerance (bigger). Many canvasses and some panels are not square so ensure that the measurement you enter is the widest point including for example, any folded material on the corner of stretched canvas. If in any doubt, give us a call.

Loose Mount (Mat) on its own

What is this appropriate for?  When you already have a frame, or want to buy a Ready Made Frame, and your picture doesn’t fit in the frame. You could look for a Standard Size Mount but Custom Made gives you complete freedom with Aperture Size and Colour…

What measurement should I put in and where?   The Height and Width that you enter will be the size of the Aperture (Window) of your Mount (Mat); you will need to be very careful calculating your margins to ensure that the glaze size will fit your frame...
