This guide is intended to be a useful set of notes to help you to measure your artwork correctly. This will ensure that the picture frames and/or mounts we send you fit your artwork exactly as you specified.
When ordering a plain glazed frame.Measure your artwork carefully to the nearest mm and then add 2mm to each measurement to ensure a comfortable fit (tolerance). We will make the rebate (internal measurement inside the back of the frame) of the frame to the exact size you give. In the case of art works which are not square or the sides are not straight, approx. 5mm of the work will be covered by the "check" of the frame i.e. that portion of the rebate which covers the package of glaze, artwork back etc. When ordering a glazed frame with mount(s) or loose mount only. Please decide what size window you would like in your mount, remembering that the mount must overlap the artwork on all sides – ideally by 5mm all round. When ordering a mirror. The size you give will be the glass size. The outside of the frame will be approx. the glass size plus twice the frame width.Frames for Oil Paintings. Will be made as with plain glazed frames, to the exact rebate size given. Canvasses are often not fully square so ensure that you measure the widest part on each side and add 4mm to each measurement for a work on canvas, or 2mm if the work is on board. |
