Square and Golden Art Panels are made by a unique process where a single piece of 6mm FSC® certified MDF board is routered and folded up around an FSC certified finger jointed Spruce sub-frame.
This process has two main advantages: firstly that there are no actual joins on the facing edges of the panel; and second, that the box structure of the MDF has incredible strength even without the sub-frame, while retaining very light weight. The reverse of the panels are primed with white undercoat to prevent moisture ingress on the back.
Raw Panels are sanded on the front and sides, but otherwise left unfinished allowing the user to apply a primer of their choice.
Traditional Gesso Panels are finished on the front and sides with a traditional rabbit skin glue based Gesso recipe which is unlike any other painting surface.
